Do you know your innies from outies? Inbetweenies from flatties? Umbilicus from Bachnabel? Well, for those of you who don't, here is our bellybutton dictionary.

English

Umbilicus The medical name for a bellybutton
Navel A more, formal name for a bellybutton
Bellybutton The little hole or protrusion where you once were connected to your mother's womb via the umbilical cord
Tummy Button A very 'English' word for a bellybutton
Innie, Inney, Inie, Inner, Inny A bellybutton that is formed like a concave dimple in the middle of a stomach
Outie, Outtie, Outy, Outty A bellybutton which pokes out from the stomach. The skin forms a protrusion in a convex form
Swirley, Swirly, Snaily Normally an outie, a remnant of the umbilical cord forms a swirl or spiral shape on the belly
Inbetweenie, tweenie Nor an innie or an outie, sometimes also called a half and half or innie/outie as part of the bellybutton is classed as an innie and part is an outie
Flattie The scar is visible and is neither in or out but flush or inline with the rest of the stomach.
